Every claim is traced to a source

Material factual claims are checked against a primary or authoritative source — a governing body's rulebook, an official competition record, a museum or archive, or established academic work. Other websites ranking for a query are not treated as authorities on fact, even when they rank first.

Rankings state their method

Where a page ranks or orders anything, the measure is stated explicitly. "Most popular sport" means nothing until you say whether you are measuring participation, broadcast audience, attendance or search interest, so we say which, and we show the figure.

Records state their cutoff

Anything that changes over time carries a data cutoff date, the competition and format it applies to, the source, and the date it was last verified.

Dates are honest

Published dates reflect when a page was first published. Modified dates reflect substantive changes, not cosmetic edits. Where a page has been fact-checked without being rewritten, that is recorded separately as a verification date.

What we will not do

We do not invent quotations, statistics, anecdotes or personal experience. We do not publish betting or gambling material. We do not republish images we have no right to use. We do not create pages purely to occupy a URL.
